Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital is Now Offering PROVENGE to Treat Prostate Cancer

mCRPC is a form of advanced prostate cancer. In its early stages, prostate cancer is often localized, meaning it remains confined to the prostate gland, and is often treated during this phase with surgery, radiation therapy, or hormone therapy. When the prostate cancer no longer responds to these treatments and spreads to other parts of the body, it is then known as mCRPC.
The development of mCRPC signifies a more aggressive form of prostate cancer and requires more specialized treatment. PROVENGE is the first FDA-approved personalized immunotherapy for treatment of advanced prostate cancer. It has been clinically proven to extend life for certain men with mCRPC.
PROVENGE is custom-made from a person’s own immune cells, training a patient’s immune system to recognize and attack prostate cancer cells.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. While the relative 5-year survival rate for prostate cancer diagnosed in its earliest stages is over 99%, the 5-year survival rate for advanced or metastatic prostate cancer drops to 34%.
