Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary Celebrates 80 Years of Service and Groundbreaking for Caring Cottage Project

Posted Date: 7/19/2024
The Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary proudly celebrated its 80th anniversary with a special event that honored the many years of dedicated service provided by members. The celebration, held on July 18, was a heartfelt tribute to the Auxiliary's significant contributions to the hospital and the community. In conjunction with this milestone anniversary, a groundbreaking took place of the new patient family stay house, aptly named The Caring Cottage.

As of 2024, the Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary has served the hospital for 80 years, fundraising to provide additional support and services to hospital staff, patients, and the community. Since its inception, the Auxiliary has raised upwards of $3 million for the hospital.

Made possible by the Mon Health Medical Center Foundation, the Caring Cottage was largely supported by the Auxiliary’s 59th annual Ball of the Year in October 2023, with over $500,000 raised to fund the project. The Caring Cottage will provide a home away from home for families of patients undergoing extensive treatments at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown. These stay houses will offer a warm and welcoming environment, allowing families to remain close to their loved ones throughout their medical journeys.

“The Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary has a rich history and legacy of members dedicated to benefitting the hospital and the people it serves,” said Chris Battin, Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary President. “It is a true honor to celebrate our 80th anniversary with the groundbreaking of the Caring Cottage project, a project that we have supported from its inception and know will enable Mon Health Medical Center to continue providing high-quality care to patients and their families across the region.”

“The 80 years of service reflects decades of time, talent and treasure delivered by our dedicated auxiliarians. We are so thankful for all the heartfelt work, financial support of the hospital and programs, and time given to sustain the hospital. Mon Health Medical Center could not do what it does for our patients if the Auxiliary was not such a strong partner in delivering on our mission of enhancing the health of the communities, we serve one person at a time. If this is a celebration of the first 80-years, I cannot wait to see what our next 80-years looks like. The future is bright,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health.
