The Mon Health Medical Center Foundation Officially Breaks Ground on Caring Cottages

Posted Date: 5/29/2024
In October 2023 at the Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary 59th Ball of the Year, Mon Health Medical Center announced the Caring Cottages, a patient family stay house on the Mon Health Medical Center Campus made possible by the Mon Health Medical Center Foundation. After raising over $500,000 at the Ball and with months of preparation, the construction for the Caring Cottages is officially underway after breaking ground in May.

The Caring Cottages will provide a home away from home for families of patients undergoing extensive treatments at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown. These stay houses will offer a warm and welcoming environment, allowing families to remain close to their loved ones throughout their medical journeys.

The Caring Cottages are being constructed by Omnis Building Technologies, a West Virginia-based manufacturer of energy-efficient, pre-engineered home building systems made up of Concrete Insulated Building Units (CIBU) that are shipped then assembled on-site to make pre-designed, move-in ready homes.

Located on the edge of Mon Health Medical Center’s Campus, each Caring Cottage will act as a ‘home away from home’ for patient families, providing the comforts and necessities for any length of stay.

“Through the generosity and support of our donors, we are proud to finally break ground on this project. These stay houses are designed to alleviate additional burdens on the families of our patients during times of adversity, so it’s truly exciting to see this project moving forward after much anticipation,” said Luella Gunter, Executive Director of Philanthropy at Mon Health System. “We really cannot thank our donors enough for their contributions and dedication to bettering the services we provide as a nonprofit organization.”

Construction of the Caring Cottages is expected to be completed in July 2024. Donations can still be made in support of the project and can be given online at MonHealth.com/Foundation/Caring-Cottages. In addition, the 2024 Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary 60th Annual Ball of the Year will be held in support of the Caring Cottages.

“At Mon Health, we are committed to providing an extraordinary patient experience through compassionate care and clinical excellence,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health. “We have many patients who travel long distances for our highly regarded care, and many of their family members need a place to stay while they receive treatment. Through the construction of the Caring Cottages, we can continue to make good on our promise to provide high quality care to patients and their families. We are proud of this project and grateful to our many donors who have allowed us to make this a reality.”
