Mon Health Medical Center Patients Gain Access to Free Nutritional FARMacy Program

Posted Date: 6/27/2024
Mon Health Medical Center patients now have access to the FARMacy Program through the Vandalia Health Network.

Vandalia Health Network’s FARMacy Program is designed to increase access to health education, healthy foods, and free resources for patients managing diabetes. Patients of Mon Health Medical Center can participate in the FARMacy Program’s free, 15-week course that will provide access to fresh produce, cooking tips, and physical education each week. By participating in the program, patients will join a community that supports the improvement of their health.

“At Mon Health Medical Center, we understand the value of well-rounded healthcare and the great need in our area for healthy resources and education. We also know that food is medicine, and increasing access to healthy foods can greatly benefit the overall health of our community members,” said Dr. Krystal Atkinson, Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Nursing Officer of Mon Health Medical Center and Chief Nursing Executive of Mon Health System. “We are thankful for our partnership with the Vandalia Health Network and proud to offer our patients free access to this exceptional program that will undoubtedly make a positive impact on their health journeys.”

Those interested in participating in the FARMacy Program must be current patients of Mon Health Medical Center who have a diagnosis of diabetes, have an HBA1C level of greater than 7, a BMI of greater than 30, agree to pre and post lab work, and commit to weekly participation in the program.

The program will be held every Monday from 10:30AM-Noon in at Mylan Park County Extension Services. The FARMacy Program is now accepting new enrollment through Monday, July 8.
