Mon Health Collaborating to Help in Downtown Fairmont Clean-Up Day

Posted Date: 7/16/2021

Mon Health is partnering with Main Street Fairmont to assist with a community clean-up day on Friday, August 6, 2021. Community Health Coordinator at Mon Health Medical Center, Michael McGovern, is coordinating the downtown clean-up along with Main Street Fairmont Director, Timothy Liebrecht.

McGovern explained that around twenty-five volunteers will clean and revitalize the flowers beds and shrubbery around the Downtown Post Office parking lot, Veteran’s Square, and the parking garage at Madison and Adams Street; construct and plant four planter boxes for the installation
of public art displays from Fairmont State University; and paint the jewelry store façade on Adams Street.

“Main Street Fairmont is honored to partner with Mon Health for this clean-up day, as we work together to carry out our mission of creating a more prosperous and active downtown,” said Liebrecht. “Mon Health has stepped up in a big way to show their dedication to Downtown Fairmont and the greater Marion County community. We are thankful to have them as a partner in this venture and for their commitment and continued investment. We look forward to more great opportunities and partnerships through these efforts.”

Liebrecht and Main Street will provide brooms, garbage bags, paint, supplies, and lumber. In addition to supplying the volunteers, Mon Health will provide mulch, potting soil, and annuals for the project. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.

“I look forward to the opportunity for Mon Health to have a strong presence in Marion County,” McGovern said. “This is the first step in our community involvement here.”

Mon Health currently has a Primary Care Office, Heart & Vascular Center, and Obstetrics & Gynecology Offices located on Locust Avenue, in Fairmont. Mon Health plans to expand in the area with the construction of a small format hospital, Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital, which is expected to be a 19,000 square foot, one-story facility in White Hall. The facility, near the Fairmont Technology Park, will be a 10-inpatient bed, and 10-emergency bed hospital.

“We believe that this is the perfect solution for the Fairmont region and its surrounding communities,” David Goldberg, President & CEO of Mon Health System said. “Because many Marion County residents already know and trust Mon Health for their medical care, we look forward to opening this new hospital to the greater Fairmont area to keep healthcare local for our patients.”
