The Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program received a new recumbent bike by donation from the Lewis County Heart Society.
Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation is a medically supervised program designed to improve cardiovascular health for individuals that have experienced a heart attack, heart failure, angioplasty, or heart surgery. It is an individually tailored program consisting of exercise and education to help patients feel better, increase endurance, and improve their overall quality of life after a cardiopulmonary issue.
“The recumbent bike is great for Cardiac Rehabilitation. Exercise in the recumbent position puts less strain on the cardiovascular system versus the leaned-forward upright cycling position,” said Carla Halstead, Director of Cardiopulmonary Services at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. “This donated recumbent bike will be greatly beneficial to our patients who experience cardiac limitation, or who are recovering from a heart attack.”
The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital opened in 1979. The program consists of exercise counseling and training, cardiac risk factor changes, heart health education, diet and nutritional counseling, and emotional and social support.
Our Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs have received certification by The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). AACVPR Program Certification is recognition of our commitment to improving the quality of life of patients by enhancing our standards of care.
“As a nonprofit hospital, charitable donations are valuable to us and the sustainability of the programs we offer,” said Kevin Stalnaker, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. “This bike will serve the program well and will allow our cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program to continue to provide exceptional patient care.”
