Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Oncology Infusion and Vein Center Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary

Posted Date: 10/18/2023
On October 17, the Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Oncology Infusion and Vein Center celebrated its 10-year anniversary.

In October 2013, the now-Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital opened its Infusion and Vein Center to address the area’s need for comprehensive cancer care. Before the center opened, it had been nearly a decade since patients in the Weston area had cancer care close to home.

“Receiving treatment close to home is extremely valuable for patients and their families, and this infusion center has certainly been impactful in the community,” said Dr. Ihtishaam Qazi, Mon Health Medical Director of Oncology. “In the last ten years, the staff have sustained this center and have continually embraced new technologies and medical advancements, increasing access to quality cancer care in rural West Virginia.”

Marcie Stump, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, has been at the infusion center since its opening in 2013. Through Marcie’s dedication, working alongside many long-time staff members, including Kathy Daley-Nutt, RN, many patients have received local cancer care from neighbors they know.

“I care about my community and ensuring that people have access to close-to-home cancer care,” said Marcie. “I am proud to have worked at the infusion center for the last decade, and I will continue to dedicate myself to providing top-notch care to cancer patients in the area.”

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among West Virginians, and early diagnosis and treatment, often through chemotherapy and surgery, are the best ways to extend the lives of those battling the disease. At the Oncology Infusion and Vein Center, patients can receive chemotherapy and advanced cancer treatments close to home.

To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the center’s opening, staff gathered with patients and family members to enjoy refreshments. Dr. Qazi spoke at the event about the necessity of the cancer center and the invaluable staff members that have made an impact on the lives of patients and their families

“We are proud to have provided excellent cancer care for the last decade and look forward to furthering our mission to enhance the health of the community, one patient at a time, here in the Weston area,” said Kevin Stalnaker, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.
