Hannah Davis, RN, The DAISY Award recipient at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital
Hannah Davis, RN, of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. Awarded to nurses biannually at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital, The DAISY Award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
The nomination submitted from a family member of one of Hannah’s patients read:
“Our daughter came in for an elective surgery and had complications. During the first night, her heart stopped. Hannah performed chest compressions and was able to revive her. During her stay, Hannah went above and beyond her duties as a nurse. She was not only compassionate, but Hannah made our daughter comfortable and kept her spirits lifted. Her ability to be compassionate and truly concerned about the condition of our daughter was a natural attribute.
She cared not only for our daughter, but for us. She offered us blankets and pillows when we were exhausted, and drinks when we were too afraid to leave the hospital for rest. The staff and doctors are awesome, but Hannah stood out. She showed strength and dedication. She never wavered even when we knew she was tired. Her smile comforted us. She saved my daughter. How do we even begin to let her know just how thankful we are? Hannah – thank you, thank you, thank you!”
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation, based in CA, was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
“When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation. “Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Mon Health System are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
Hannah is a Registered Nurse and House Supervisor and has worked for Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital for a year.
“I was completely caught off guard winning the DAISY Award, and it was such an honor,” said Hannah. “People see us on their worst days. Having patients and their families trust us to keep themselves and their loved ones safe, cared for, and advocated for when they cannot, is a huge honor. Nursing is a team effort and thankfully, I work with a really great crew at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital.”
“It was so touching to present this award to Hannah. She is the epitome of what nursing is known for, providing care and compassion with clinical expertise that can make a difference in the lives of patients,” said Jennifer Nestor, Chief Nursing Officer at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital. “Seeing the tears in the eyes of the person who nominated her makes us all remember why we are in healthcare and how important our mission is to serve our communities. It is an honor to have Hannah and our other extraordinary nurses on our team.”
