Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital, Local Schools Team Together to Raise over $2K for Breast Cancer Fund
Posted Date: 11/8/2024
In the spirit of community, Vandalia Health’s Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital staff hit the sidelines of four “Pink Out” games in October, rallying support and raising awareness for breast cancer prevention across Preston County.
Each fall, local schools and Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital staff join forces to host “Pink Out” events, whe education and advocacy come together to support the Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital Foundation's Pink Fund. Founded by Preston High School students in 2012, the Pink Fund provides financial aid to ensure uninsured patients have access to vital breast cancer screenings.
“The Pink Fund provides access to breast cancer screenings for patients who might not otherwise have the opportunity,” said, Melissa Lockwood, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital. “As a nonprofit hospital, funds like these help us fulfill our mission to improve the health of our communities, one patient at a time, and the “Pink Out” events bring awareness to the importance of annual screenings and early detection. We appreciate our local students for their ongoing support.”
This year, Preston High School boys and girls soccer, volleyball, and football teams, as well as Central Preston Middle and South Preston School volleyball teams, raised $2,315 for the Pink Fund through student raffles, donation jars, and check presentations. Since its inception, students have contributed over $27,000, enabling 96 patients to receive screenings at no cost.
