Mon Health Orthopedics - Trust the Experts to Get You Back on Your Feet

Posted Date: 3/28/2022

Ed Grimm and his wife

Ed Grimm was experiencing excruciating pain in his knee to the point where he could no longer put pressure on it. After he made an appointment with the Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital Orthopedic Team, they got Ed back on his feet in no time.

Ed’s knee started causing him pain, and eventually, the pain became unbearable. As an employee at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital, his coworkers encouraged him to see the Orthopedic Team there.

“They saw something in the X-ray that made them want to get an MRI. The MRI showed a tear in my meniscus, and they asked if I wanted to do surgery to repair it,” he said.

Dr. Martin Senicki, Orthopedic Surgeon, and his team scheduled Ed for surgery on March 3, 2022. During surgery, they identified and repaired two tears in the meniscus and cleaned out a significant amount of calcium. Ed arrived for surgery at 7 AM and was home recovering by 10:30 AM the same day.

“They suggested pain medication for when my anesthesia wore off, but I never once experienced the pain they talked about. I was up and walking the same day. It was one of the easiest surgeries I’ve ever had in my life, and I’ve had a lot of surgeries,” he said.

Ed is a native of Preston County and has worked at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital for the past 31 years as Materials Manager. Ed and his wife share one son who also works for the hospital as a Registered Nurse. He enjoys spending time with family, especially at their cabins in Rowlesburg.

“I’m only a few weeks out from surgery and I can do nearly everything that I was able to do before. They explained everything about what they were doing during surgery and why. I couldn’t have asked for a better care team, they were amazing.”
