CT Exams
CT (computed tomography, also known as CAT scan) is a noninvasive diagnostic procedure that produces cross-sectional images of the body that are more detailed than standard X-rays.
Patients often need to drink oral contrast and/or receive IV contrast to highlight internal organs on the scan so that the radiologist can make an accurate diagnosis.
Unlike MRI, CT scans can be done even if you have a pacemaker or an internal cardioverter defibrillator. However, if you’re pregnant or think you might be, tell your doctor, who may suggest postponing the procedure or ordering a different exam.
