Mon General has “great” orthopedic program according to national publication

            For the second year in a row, Becker’s Hospital Review has named Mon General Hospital on its list of the nation’s top orthopedic programs.
 

            “This recognition puts Mon General on a list with some of the largest and most prestigious hospitals in the nation, including orthopedic centers in New York City, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Pittsburgh,” said Mon Health System President and CEO Darryl Duncan. “To be included in the Becker’s Hospital Review list two years in a row is quite an honor.”

            Mon General is the only West Virginia hospital on the list.
 

            Becker’s list of “125 Hospitals and Health Systems With Great Orthopedic Programs” for 2014 highlights hospitals and health systems with outstanding orthopedic surgery departments, programs or dedicated centers that have earned recognition from several reputable sources.  The list appears in the September 2014 edition Becker’s Hospital Review.
 

            The Becker’s article states that “Mon General Hospital’s roots trace back to the early 1900s and it was officially established in 1943 by an act of the Monongalia County Court. Since then, the 189-bed hospital has earned a reputation for outstanding care, including orthopedic services, and it has grown to include one of the largest networks of orthopedic surgeons in West Virginia. Mon General Hospital is a Blue Center (Blue Cross Blue Shield Center of Excellence) for hip and knee replacement.”

            Becker’s Hospital Review is a monthly publication offering up-to-date business and legal news and analysis relating to hospitals and health systems. To devise the list, the Becker’s editorial team weighted a variety of rankings and recognitions and conducted research to find the 125 hospitals with great orthopedic programs.
