Mon Health Responds and Prepares During COVID-19 Pandemic
Posted Date: 3/19/2020
Mon Health System has taken swift courses of action to safeguard patients, employees and communities served by Mon Health facilities as the novel coronavirus threat level continues to be assessed.
Mon Health Medical Center, Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital, Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and affiliate, Grafton City Hospital, have precautionary measures in place to prevent the transmission of respiratory illness.
“The health, safety and well-being of our patients and Mon Health colleagues is paramount at this time,” stated David Goldberg, Mon Health System President and CEO. “Safety is our top priority while we support the community response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
All Mon Health facilities and affiliates have suspended non-essential treatments to reduce traffic throughout facilities, adhering to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services guidelines. All patients will be contacted directly to reschedule any procedures that have been postponed. A telemedicine program that fits into the recommended strategy of social distancing to protect our communities and further prevent the spread of the virus is also under development.
Mon Health will offer drive-through testing sites providing patients the opportunity to be tested from the convenience of their own vehicles. The first site will begin operating on Friday, March 20 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Surgicare South area of the MHMC campus. Additional Mon Health drive-through sites are being planned and will be announced upon launch.
At this time all patients are limited to one adult visitor per day. Visitors will be screened upon entrance and those not meeting the criteria will not be permitted to enter.
Additional precautions include increasing screening measures, limiting conference rooms to internal usage only, restricting cafeteria areas from public usage and canceling or postponing hospital-hosted events. All Mon Health facilities and affiliates are also implementing an emergency telework policy, allowing staff who do not provide direct patient care to work remotely.
If you are experiencing non-life-threatening respiratory symptoms including fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, please do not walk into a clinic, emergency department, or urgent care as requested by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Instead, please call the Mon Health Patient Outreach Line at 304-285-3798.
