Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Shares its Heart Month Happenings

“We are not only committed to providing the best possible heart care for our communities, but we strive to provide quality education and community-focused events that enhance the health and well-being of those in our area,” said Kevin Stalnaker, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. “We are excited to implement these heart-focused initiatives for our community and staff throughout Heart Month.”
On Feb. 2, the hospital is celebrating Go Red for Women Day to raise awareness for women’s heart health as heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women in West Virginia.
In an effort to encourage healthy activity, on Feb. 3, the hospital is hosting its annual Ground Hog 5 run/walk for the community. In addition, from Feb. 3-10 hospital staff are encouraged to participate in the “Let’s Get Physical” walking challenge. Participants that walk for 120 minutes will be entered to win a raffle.
The week of Feb. 11-17, the hospital will host blood pressure and pulse oximetry screenings for the community. The following week of Feb. 18-24, the hospital cafeteria is holding “Taste Test Healthy Favorites” and offering a variety of menu options that are both tasty and heart-healthy. Lastly, from Feb. 25-29, there will be Tobacco Cessation Education for anyone who is interested.
Mon Health System is also highlighting its heart health benefits offered to all employees throughout Heart Month. As it may be difficult to get heart-healthy due to everyday stressors, Mon Health System offers an Employee Assistance Program for employees and their families, providing mental health services, professional counseling, and advising through the program. Mon Health System also offers a fitness incentive program, providing discounted rates for gym memberships and compensation for exercising regularly.
