For over twenty years, Charles Chapman suffered through chronic prostate pain. Many long nights of restlessness with no hope of relief caused Charles to start his long search for answers.
Charles lives in Ruffs Dale, Pennsylvania, about an hour outside of Pittsburgh. As his prostate pain got worse, he started traveling up to Pittsburgh to see some of the best specialists in the city. After many consultations, long drives, and several procedures, Charles started to lose hope.
“I’ve had catheters placed and removed, I’ve had Indigo Laser procedures, and one UroLift consisting of seven staples,” said Charles. “I had tried just about everything, but I was still experiencing the same problems.”
After a particularly difficult and painful episode, Charles resorted to trying anything he thought would make his problems go away including diet and lifestyle changes.
“I tried changing up my diet and my lifestyle. I spent many hours researching on my own to try and figure out solutions,” said Charles. “It wasn’t until I came across a YouTube video about Aquablation that I started to have hope.”
Charles learned that Aquablation treatment was available at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, West Virginia, just over an hour south of his home in Ruffs Dale. He decided to make the trip to see if this treatment was right for him.
“I met Dr. Rad and he performed an exam to determine the best next step,” said Charles. “He determined that Aquablation was the way to go, and I got scheduled for surgery and then went on my way.”
A few days later, Charles began to feel very sick. He started experiencing lots of pain, felt very feverish, and was shaking. He called his wife, Patti, to take him to the emergency room and she suggested that they drive to Mon Health Medical Center.
“It was a busy July 4th weekend and my wife and I knew that the wait times in Pittsburgh would be several hours long, so we decided to drive down to Morgantown and visit Mon Health’s ER,” said Charles. “What was amazing was that we didn’t have to wait at all. I was checked in immediately and got a catheter placed. After that, I had my first full night’s sleep in almost 20 years.”
After his visit to the ER, Charles met with Dr. Rad and they decided to move up his appointment from one month out to the next week.
“I felt great going into surgery, but the real amazing thing happened after I got out,” said Charles. “After I was cleared to go home and discharged from the hospital, my life has been changed. I felt no more pain and that’s the way it’s been ever since!”
Charles was born in Belington, WV, and spent much of his adolescence and young adulthood traveling. After serving in Vietnam, he eventually settled down in Pennsylvania, where he currently resides with his wife. Charles is now retired and enjoys fishing, especially in the warm Florida Keys.
“I cannot say enough about how personable and professional the team at Mon Health has been. I want to share my experience with as many men as possible because of how freeing this procedure was for me,” said Charles. “If I could say anything to someone with prostate issues it would be to go see Dr. Rad in West Virginia. The team at Mon Health are the ones who know what they’re doing.”
