Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital Kicks Off Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital employees gather to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 

Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital has kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a multitude of events throughout the first week of October.

On Tuesday, October 4, Preston County Officials declared October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Preston County. Following the ceremony, Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital staff placed pink bows on streetlights at Price, South Price, and Main Street in Kingwood. Bows will remain on the streetlights throughout October to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital staff and volunteers were also present on Wednesday, October 5 for the first of the “Pink Out” games in Preston County for the Preston High School Girl’s Soccer team. These annual events aim to support the Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital Foundation Pink Fund. Since 2012, over $27,000 has been raised through for the Pink Fund which provides financial support for patients through screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast biopsy services.

Hospital staff participated in their own “Pink Out” on Friday, October 7 where they wore Breast Cancer Awareness Month shirts. Proceeds from shirt sales raised more than $1,000 for the Pink Fund.

Two more “Pink Out” sporting events will be held on Wednesday, October 19 during the volleyball game between West Preston Middle School and Central Preston Middle School and on Friday, October 28, for the Preston High School football game vs. Buckhannon Upshur.
