Brookhaven Elementary Donates to Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center’s Kelsie’s Korner
Posted Date: 3/5/2025
Young patients at Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center are feeling the support of their community thanks to a special donation from students at Brookhaven Elementary School, the hospital’s Partner in Education. As part of Kindness Week, students collected more than 80 stuffed animals to stock Kelsie’s Korner locations throughout the hospital.
“During our kindness lessons for Kindness Week, we talked with students about the different ways we can be kind, and how donating to an organization is one of those ways,” said Lindsay Ramsey, a teacher at Brookhaven Elementary School. “The students really loved bringing in donations and seeing them accumulate throughout the week.”
Kelsie’s Korner was created in 2006 by the Mon Health Auxiliary to honor former Brookhaven Elementary student, Kelsie Elaine Moore, who passed away in 2002 at age 13. Five Kelsie’s Korner locations were established in her memory throughout the hospital to provide comfort items for young patients.
“We are so incredibly thankful to the students and staff at Brookhaven Elementary for their generous donation. With support from community partners like Brookhaven Elementary as well as local community groups, sports teams, churches, corporate partners and individuals, we’ve been able to keep our Kelsie's Korner locations stocked and continue to honor Kelsie’s memory. We would like to thank all who have contributed through the years to this project,” said Jacob Mulder, Manager of Volunteer Services, Mon Medical Center.
