Healthgrades recognizes Mon Health as top-performing hospital for women's health care

Mon Health Medical Center is one of only nine facilities in 17 states to achieve 5 stars in all five women's care procedures rated by Healthgrades® in 2017. The procedures include C-section and vaginal deliveries, hysterectomy, urogynecology surgeries and other procedures related to the female reproductive system.

The Healthgrades Women's Care ratings are based on 3-year Medicare patient data on clinical outcomes. To earn 5 stars, hospitals had to achieve significantly better outcomes than expected.

"These awards demonstrate Mon Health's strong commitment to delivering an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence," said Mon Health President and CEO Darryl Duncan.

"Our birth center, which recently became the state's first Baby-Friendly designated birth facility, is committed to reducing C-section deliveries, encouraging breastfeeding and maintaining a high level of patient satisfaction," Duncan added. "Our surgical team is experienced in a wide range of gynecological procedures, including da Vinci robotic surgery."

Healthgrades announced its 2017 Women's Care Award recipients in July. Mon Health Medical Center received the awards for Labor and Delivery Excellence, Gynecologic Surgery Excellence and Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence. The awards are given to the top 10 percent of hospitals that have achieved exceptional clinical outcomes while caring for women in childbirth, as well as during and after gynecologic surgeries and procedures.

Mon Health Medical Center is the only hospital in North Central West Virginia to receive all three awards. It is also the only hospital in the state to receive the Healthgrades' 2017 patient Safety Excellence Award and the 2017 Outstanding patient Experience Award.

Earlier this year, Mon Health Medical Center also received the Healthgrades 2017 Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award and was named among the top 10 percent in the nation for heart surgery. In addition, it earned 5 stars for valve surgery.
