Intermed Labs at Mon Health has been awarded the Top Innovator of 2022 for their Fingy3D device during The Tank: Plastic Surgery Innovation Challenge hosted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the world’s largest organization of board-certified plastic surgeons.
During the ASPS national meeting on Friday, October 28 in Boston, MA, thousands of plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgeons met from around the world.
Dr. Tom McClellan, cofounder of Intermed Labs at Mon Health, presented against three other finalists from Dartmouth, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Washington University who had been selected among numerous applications from across the country.
Judges on the panel included distinguished medical innovators, venture capitalists, and the former president of the ASPS. The Top Innovator award also included a $10,000 monetary prize to be used to further advance the project.
“Winning this national competition against such distinguished medical centers is a tremendous honor for our state, Mon Health System, our patients, and it highlights the talented people that have worked tirelessly on this project,” said Dr. McClellan. “I think the judges were impressed by our quality team and the elegant solution that we had created for patients to access prosthetics.”
Fingy3D is a custom, functional 3D printed finger prosthetic that can be ordered on demand at

“Intermed Labs at Mon Health continues to advance the future of healthcare with the innovation of our entrepreneurs. Our world-class team builds, prototypes, and grows ideas from across the country to improve patient outcomes and quality of life, right here close to home,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health.
“West Virginia has an abundance of bright and innovative young people who have an insatiable work ethic. Intermed Labs at Mon Health has created the startup environment needed for innovators to succeed globally as evidenced by industry leaders visiting Morgantown, using our products, and evaluating our future innovations,” said Dr. McClellan. “I have no doubt that we can build a flourishing MedTech ecosystem within the state.”
