Mon Health Heart and Vascular Performs First Cardiac Ablation Using POLARx in West Virginia
Posted Date: 10/9/2023
On Monday, October 2, Mon Health Heart and Vascular’s Dr. Matthew Gaskill performed the first cardiac ablation procedure in West Virginia using the POLARx Cryoablation System, a treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF).
“I am very honored to be able to perform the first POLARx ablation in the state of West Virginia,” said Dr. Matthew Gaskill. “This advancement in ablation technology not only represents a significant growth in the treatment of atrial fibrillation, but also allows us to continue to provide exceptional care for our patients.”
The POLARx Cryoablation System is designed to provide cryoablation therapy for the treatment of paroxysmal AF, an intermittent form of AF that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate. The system is purpose-built to address known challenges with traditional cryoablation.
The system features the POLARx FIT Cryoablation Balloon, a unique device that enables two balloon sizes in one catheter, allowing physicians to address a wider range of pulmonary vein anatomies, and helps achieve more complete tissue contact to better deliver treatment to areas of the heart where disruptive signals that cause AF originate.
“Medical technology is always advancing and at Mon Health, we work diligently to deliver the most updated, evidence-based care available,” said Dr. Bradford Warden, Executive Director at Mon Health Heart and Vascular Center and Chief of Cardiology. “We are proud to have completed the first cardiac ablation procedure using POLARx in the great state of West Virginia and will continue to strive for excellence in our care.”
