Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center Kicks Off Heart Month with Go Red for Women Breakfast

Posted Date: 2/7/2024
Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center kicked off February’s “Heart Month” with a Go Red for Women Breakfast on Friday, February 2. Mon Health System’s female leadership, including Auxiliary and Board members, as well as residents from The Village at Heritage Point, came together to raise awareness for women’s heart health.

In partnership with the American Heart Association, the Go Red for Women Breakfast recognizes National Wear Red Day and the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative to raise awareness of heart disease as the leading cause of death among women in the United States.

Attendees enjoyed a heart-healthy breakfast with omelets, fruit, scones, and more, while listening to several speakers on the importance of maintaining heart health. Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center Advanced Practice Providers presented on the unknown risks factors for heart disease that go unnoticed in many women, and how women can remain vigilant to prevent heart disease.

“The Go Red for Women Breakfast is a spectacular event that we were honored to host at Mon Health Medical Center this year,” said Dr. Krystal Atkinson, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Medical Center and Chief Nursing Executive of Mon Health System. “It’s important that we regularly check in with one another and raise awareness of the risks of heart disease among women, and this breakfast is a unique way we get to do that.”

A person’s risk factors for heart disease can be related to family history, preexisting medical conditions, age, previous or current pregnancy complications, menstrual history and menopause, and more. Some women do not experience any symptoms of heart disease before diagnosis, and individuals are encouraged to schedule regular visits with their primary care physician to understand their current risk factors.

Mon Health System is highlighting heart health throughout Heart Month and has events planned for patients and employees across the state. To learn more about the Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center, visit MonHealth.com/Heart.
