Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital Hosts Disaster Drill with First Responders and Local Students

Posted Date: 10/23/2023
On Wednesday, October 18, Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital hosted a disaster drill to prepare for public health emergencies and test response capabilities in real time.

Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital was joined by Marion County Rescue Squad, Whitehall Police, and Marion County 911 to demonstrate a realistic disaster drill and to identify the most important strengths and areas for improvement in a large-scale emergency.

Students from East Fairmont High School volunteered their time to act as victims, playing a crucial role in making the exercise as realistic as possible.

“Preparedness is essential when it comes to disaster response,” said Carla Hamner, Hospital Administrator at Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital. “This drill has allowed our hospital to test our response to large-scale emergencies and has given us an understanding of how we can continue to strive for excellence in community health and safety.”

The drill focused on a Fentanyl exposure, which has become an increased public health risk across the state.

“We are proud to say that the drill was a complete success,” said Dr. Christopher Edwards, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital. “Our teams moved quickly and efficiently. At Mon Health, we are dedicated to high quality, safe care for our community and this drill was a testament to that dedication.”
