Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary Hosts Skin Cancer Foundation Mobile Screening Unit
Posted Date: 9/18/2024
The Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary is collaborating with the Skin Cancer Foundation to provide free skin cancer screenings in Morgantown on Saturday, Sept. 21 on the Destination Healthy Skin bus.
Destination Healthy Skin is the Skin Cancer Foundation’s mobile skin cancer screening and education program. The Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary is partnering with the Skin Foundation and Mon Health Dermatologist Dr. Mary Hall to provide free, full body skin exams.
“Regular skin checks are vital for early detection and prevention of skin cancers,” said Dr. Mary Hall, Mon Health Dermatologist. “Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer worldwide, but with proper examinations and protection from harmful UV rays including regular use of sunscreen, avoiding tanning beds, and limiting time in the sun during peak hours, you can reduce your risk.”
No appointment is necessary, screenings will be performed on the Destination Healthy Skin bus at Mon Health Medical Park on Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22, and participants will be screened on a first-come, first-served basis.
“As the Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary, we support the hospital’s mission to enhance the health of the community, one person at a time, so we are proud to partner with the Skin Cancer Foundation and Dr. Hall to provide the community with free skin cancer screenings,” said Chris Battin, Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary Board President.
As of 2024, the Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary has served the hospital for 80 years, fundraising to provide additional support and services to hospital staff, patients, and the community. Since its inception, the Auxiliary has raised upwards of $3 million for the hospital.
