Mon Health Medical Center Cardiothoracic Surgery Expands with Addition of Dr. Chris Cook

Cardiothoracic surgery focuses on treating conditions of the heart, lungs, esophagus, and chest. This includes everything from coronary artery bypass surgery to heart valve repair and replacement, as well as surgeries for other complex chest conditions. Given that heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in West Virginia, access to advanced cardiothoracic care is vital. These procedures help to improve both the quality and length of life for patients suffering from life-threatening conditions.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Cook as Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery to expand the services we provide,” said Karen Friggens, Vice President of Physician Services at Mon Health Medical Group. “Cardiothoracic surgery is a highly specialized field, and we are proud to expand access to these life-saving procedures for patients across the region.”
Dr. Cook received his Doctor of Medicine from Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia. He completed his residency in General Surgery at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia, and his Cardiothoracic Surgery training, including a fellowship pin minimally invasive thoracic surgery, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Cook is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
