Mon Health Medical Center Performs the Region’s First Robotic Procedure with Intuitive’s da Vinci 5

The da Vinci 5 system can be used for minimally invasive surgical procedures for urology, gynecology, thoracic, and general surgeries. With more than 150 new design innovations, da Vinci 5 expands upon core da Vinci system features, including wristed instruments, 3DHD visualization, intuitive motion, and an ergonomic design. As with all da Vinci surgical systems, the surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic-assisted da Vinci system, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments.
Dr. Jaschar Shakuri-Rad, Urologist, Medical Director of Robotic Surgery, Medical Director of Medical Specialties, and Master Robotic Surgeon, completed a robotic partial nephrectomy for kidney cancer on Thursday, August 8 using the da Vinci 5. This minimally invasive procedure is performed to remove a tumor from the kidney while preserving as much of the kidney function as possible.
