Mon Health Medical Center is pleased to announce that
Dr. Shakuri-Rad, Urologist and Robotic Surgeon at Mon Health System, performed the first urologic single port procedure in West Virginia using the da Vinci Single Port (SP) system by Intuitive. Mon Health Medical Center is only the second hospital in the state with the da Vinci SP, which gives surgeons the ability to deliver robotic-assisted surgery through a single port.
“At Mon Health System, we are dedicated to advancing surgical innovation and improving patient outcomes. With the da Vinci Single Port system, we can now deliver robotic-assisted surgery through a single incision, minimizing the impact on our patients’ bodies and providing them with the most advanced surgical care available for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancer as well as other urological surgical procedures,” said
Dr. Shakuri-Rad.
Single port surgery allows for fewer incisions to reduce the impact on patient outcomes. It gives surgeons the ability to deliver robotic-assisted surgery through one single incision, opening the door to the next era of surgical innovation. The system’s unique patient cart design, instruments optimized for single port surgery, and advanced vision can help empower surgeons to perform procedures with a range of complexity.
Mon Health Medical Center also recently acquired its second da Vinci Xi® surgical system by Intuitive. The system can be used across a spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures and enables multi-quadrant access for gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac, and general surgeries. The acquisition of the second da Vinci system provides more accessibility to patients in our local communities to receive advanced robotic surgical care.
As with all da Vinci surgical systems, the surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic-assisted da Vinci system, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. The Xi® system’s immersive 3DHD vision system provides surgeons a highly magnified view, virtually extending their eyes and hands into the patient.
Vandalia Health, parent company of Mon Health System, is the only health system in the state with Intuitive HUB, connecting surgeons in real-time, remotely for tele-monitoring and tele-proctoring. The touch-enabled device allows secure, private case video and image storage from da Vinci systems automatically.
“The addition of the Single Port system, our second da Vinci Xi, and Vandalia Health’s participation in the Intuitive HUB all demonstrate our commitment to providing our local communities with access to the latest in robotic surgical technology,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health. “These advancements enable our talented surgeons to perform invasive procedures with unprecedented precision and control.”
