Mon Health Medical Center Receives Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology
Mon Health Medical Center has been named a Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG) for 2023. Awarded by the Surgical Review Corporation, the COEMIG program identifies surgeons and facilities worldwide performing minimally invasive gynecological procedures and achieving defined standards for patient safety and care quality.

As well as the accreditation for Mon Health Medical Center, several physicians were named as Surgeons of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology, including Christine Wilson, MD, Susan Capelle, MD, FACOG, Craig Herring, MD, FACOG, William McBee, MD, FACOG, and John Sunyecz, MD, FACOG.

“This designation recognizes surgeons and medical facilities that demonstrate an unparalleled commitment and ability to deliver the safest, and highest quality minimally invasive gynecologic medical care,” said Dr. McBee.

For women, the benefits of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery include reduced trauma, shorter operating time, faster healing time, minimal scarring, and reduced risk of infection. Patients receive better outcomes with decrease complications and morbidity.

This distinction also enables patients to identify centers such as Mon Health Medical Center as an organization with a higher standard of gynecological care. Within the facility, the designation ensures that staff understand the benefits of minimally invasive gynecology as opposed to other open surgical methods.

“The purpose of this accreditation is to serve women by advancing the safest and more efficacious diagnostic and therapeutic techniques that afford less invasive treatments,” said Dr. Sunyecz.

COEMIG was created with the goals of increasing safety and efficiency, cutting costs, and increasing patient awareness and access to minimally invasive surgical options for women.

“Our surgeons consistently demonstrate a commitment and ability to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care. Participating in COEMIG has further focused our team on exceeding clinical benchmarks and guidelines to enhance the health of the communities we serve, one person at a time,” said Krystal Atkinson, Chief Administrative Officer at Mon Health Medical Center.
