Mon Health Medical Center receives Chest Pain accreditation
Posted Date: 11/6/2017
With the recent re-accreditation by the American College of Cardiology, Mon
Health Medical Center continues to be the only accredited chest pain center
with primary PCI in north central West Virginia.
PCI, also known as coronary angioplasty, is a non-surgical
procedure that opens narrowed or blocked arteries to relieve symptoms of heart
disease or reduce heart damage during or after a heart attack.
Hospitals that have earned ACC Chest Pain Center with
Primary PCI Accreditation have proven exceptional competency in treating
patients with heart attack symptoms and have primary PCI available 24/7.
“To receive the
accreditation, we participated in a rigorous onsite evaluation by the American
College of Cardiology for our ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients
who may be experiencing a heart attack,” said Christopher Edwards, DO, medical director
of the Mon Health Medical Center Emergency Department. “This accreditation
recognizes our streamlined processes and the commitment by our physicians,
nurses, clinicians and administrative staff to adopt best practices that lead
to better patient education and clinical outcomes.”
Many different
departments and services were instrumental in helping Mon Health obtain this
accreditation. These include MECCA 9-1-1, which dispatches ambulances, Mon
Health EMS, which transports patients and begins treating heart attack patients
on the scene, as well as the ER, cath labs and medical staff.
The accreditation is good for three years.
