Mon Health Medical Center’s Peer Recovery Coach Awarded Beacon of Hope Award
Posted Date: 10/17/2023
Mon Health Medical Center’s Peer Recovery Coach, Robert Mercer, has been selected as a 2023 Beacon of Hope Award recipient for his impact in the lives of those supported by the hospital’s Peer Recovery Program.
The Beacon of Hope awards, introduced just this year and presented by Mosaic Group stands as a beacon of recognition and celebration of Peer Recovery Coaches. The award honors exceptional Peer Recovery Coaches within the Mosaic Group Reverse the Cycle national network, with remarkable qualities and unparalleled skills who undeniably impact the lives of those supported by the Reverse the Cycle/SBIRT program.
Mon Health Medical Center, Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital provide support and services at the Emergency Room with a peer recovery program – Reverse the Cycle. All three hospitals have peer recovery coaches available for patients in the ER who screen positive for substance use.
“The Peer Recovery Program addresses a deep-rooted need in our community and in West Virgina,” Dr. Christopher Edwards, Emergency Department Medical Director of Mon Health Medical Center and Emergency Services Director of Mon Health System. “We are proud that the efforts of our team are not going unnoticed. The impact that Robert has made on the lives of patients that have come through our emergency department is insurmountable, and we are proud of him for this achievement.”
On Thursday, October 12, staff gathered to celebrate Robert and to present him with the Beacon of Hope Award.
“I believe the more we celebrate those who have been successful in recovery and highlight their achievements, the faster we can eliminate the stigma that surrounds addiction and remove some of the barriers to treatment,” Robert.
