Mon Health OBGYN Providers and Mothers Share their Experience as “Mon Moms”
Posted Date: 6/10/2024
In 2024, four Mon Health Obstetrics & Gynecology providers became “Mon Moms” and delivered their babies at the Mon Health Family Birth Centers in Morgantown and Weston. These providers are now sharing their experience, expertise, and advice to those considering receiving their pregnancy and postpartum care at Mon Health.
Dr. Marlee Greschner delivered her first baby in February. Dr. Greschner has worked as a Mon Health Obstetrics & Gynecology physician for nearly two years, and says that since becoming a mother herself, she’s gained a new perspective that has allowed her to better relate to her patients.
“Becoming a mom has definitely given me a new perspective. I specifically feel more passionate about breast feeding education and maternal mental health. Breastfeeding is like having another full-time job, but it is worth it. I am now providing more breastfeeding education for my patients, both in the office setting and in the hospital, following their delivery,” said Dr. Greschner. “In addition, I feel like I can better relate to my patients with postpartum depression or anxiety after my own experience. Being a mom is hard and I encourage my patients to give themselves grace through this transition and to never be afraid to ask for help.”
Dr. Erica Arthurs delivered her third baby in March. Dr. Arthurs is a mom of three children aged six, three, and two months, and has delivered two of her three children at Mon Health. Dr. Arthurs is in her sixth year as a Mon Health Obstetrics & Gynecology physician and says that her personal experience with pregnancy and motherhood help her walk alongside her patients throughout their care journeys.
“I know from experience how tiring, strange, and amazing pregnancy is, and those experiences have helped me talk my patients through the good and bad moments of pregnancy,” said Dr. Arthurs. “I also know how nervous patients can get about the labor and delivery process and we try our best to make patients as comfortable as possible. Pregnancy, labor, and delivery can be very unpredictable at times. Mon Health doctors and nurses are here to help throughout the entire process. Our goal is happy and healthy moms and babies.”
Emily Sparks, FNP, delivered her second baby in April. She is a mom of two children, aged 19 months and one month. Sparks has been a Nurse Practitioner in Mon Health’s Women’s Health offices in Morgantown, West Virginia and Hopwood, Pennsylvania for a year and a half, and shares some tips to help patients feel more comfortable receiving care at Mon Health.
“I encourage my patients to schedule appointments with each provider, giving them the opportunity to become acquainted and more comfortable before it’s time to deliver. I also suggest taking a tour of the Family Birth Center, so they know where to go in the hospital and can become more familiar with the environment,” said Sparks. “As far as my personal experience goes with care at Mon Health, my husband and I could not be more grateful for the care each of us received. It’s certainly unique to be able to personally go through what my patients experience, and I think having that firsthand knowledge makes the care I provide all the more personal and real for patients.”
Sarah Weaver, FNP-C, delivered her third baby in May. Weaver is a mom of three children aged five, four, and three weeks. Weaver has worked at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital since 2015, transitioning to a nurse practitioner role with Mon Health Obstetrics & Gynecology in 2021. As a “Mon Mom” and provider, she has a unique perspective on the care provided across Mon Health.
“I believe that at Mon Health, we treat you like family and truly love to get to know you and your family,” said Weaver. “The care you receive as a new mom and patient are great. You can tell that everyone truly cares about your pregnancy, not just the providers, but the whole office and labor and delivery personnel. We work as a team to provide the best care possible to everyone who’s in our care.”
