Posted Date: 8/30/2023
Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital has received certification from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) as an Acute Stroke Ready Center, affirming the hospital’s readiness to care for stroke patients.
DNV is an independent expert in assurance and risk management that sets industry standards for organizations around the world, including healthcare entities.
The DNV Acute Stroke Ready (ASR) Certification is derived from evidenced-based standards set forth by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association and affirms that Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital addresses the initial stroke diagnosis, initial treatment and when necessary, facilitates quick transfer to a specialized stroke center.
“As a rural community hospital, it is very important for our patients who present with stroke symptoms to receive rapid treatment, stabilization, and the appropriate medications to save their lives and to limit the disabling and long-term effects of stroke,” said Michelle Stanton, Director of Quality at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital. “Achieving the DNV certification in Acute Stroke Readiness demonstrates our commitment to the community that we provide excellence in stroke care.”
According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is a leading cause of death, killing nearly 130,000 people each year, and is a leading cause of serious, long-term adult disability. Because stroke or “brain attack” effects blood flow to the brain, rapid and effective treatment can save lives and provide the best chance of limiting the extent of long-term damage.
“This certification is a testament to the tireless efforts of our medical staff, clinicians, and support teams who have worked diligently to meet the rigorous standards set by the DNV,” said Melissa Lockwood, Chief Administrative Officer at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital. “With this certification, we reaffirm our readiness and capability to deliver prompt and effective care to stroke patients, providing them with the best possible chance at recovery.”
