Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital Educates Students in Preparation for Blood Drive
Posted Date: 4/9/2024
Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital staff visited Kingwood Elementary School’s Family Engagement Night ahead of its April 9th Future Donor Blood Drive.
At the Family Engagement Night, hospital staff educated children and families on the importance of blood and donating. Through a creative demonstration, students learned about plasma, red cells, and platelets, the three components of blood. Parents were also encouraged to sign up to donate at the upcoming drive.
The Future Blood Donor Blood Drive at Kingwood Community Building, partnered with Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital and the American Red Cross, will offer kid-friendly activities and feature a giant thank you sign and handmade cards created by students for the parents and guardians who donate. Students will also receive a small gift in thanks for recruiting an adult to donate.
“We have not held a Future Blood Donors Blood Drive since 2018, so we are so excited to join with Kingwood Elementary School again to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation among students and their parents and guardians,” said Kim Liston, Community Programs Coordinator at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital.
