“It’s truly special to be a volunteer, knowing that you can put a smile on someone’s face who may be going through a hard time,” said Turnley. “Being a volunteer gives me the opportunity to be out of the house and meet new people. It certainly makes my heart feel good to be involved and serve at the hospital.”
Shirely Funk started her career at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital in 1972. Since then, she’s worked in several different departments across the hospital from the business offices to the labs. As a volunteer for 13 years, she’s also volunteered in various roles throughout the hospital, greeting patients, participating in community events, and more.
“I enjoy serving others and through volunteering at the hospital, I have had the opportunity to meet with patients before their procedures to pray with them, I often play games or visit with patients staying in the hospital, encourage family members, and more,” said Funk. “Being a volunteer is a blessing to me and something I believe everyone should get the chance to do.”
