Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Groundhog Day 5K Set for Feb. 1

Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital (SJMH) will hold its 8th annual Groundhog Day 5K at 10AM, Saturday, Feb. 1, at the SJMH track in the hospital’s back parking lot. Both walkers and runners are welcome, and participants can register for $5 at Webscorer.com. The event is dependent on the weather.

Inspired by the movie, “Groundhog Day,” this unique 5K race mirrors the film's theme of repetition, as participants will loop around the track 16 times to complete the course. Awards will be given to first-, second- and third-place winners.

“As a community hospital, we strive to promote healthy living and provide opportunities for people to get involved locally,” said Lisa Songer, Chief Administrative Officer at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. “This 5K series is a fun way to bring the community together and encourage healthy activity.”

Following the Groundhog 5K, SJMH will also host a spring walk/run, the Snake Chase, at Noon, Sunday, March 16, during the Irish Spring Festival in Ireland, WV. Registration for this event will open on Feb. 7 at Webscorer.com.

SJMH’s effort to encourage healthy eating and physical fitness is based on the hospital’s Community Health Needs Assessment. After four completed assessments, local residents voted obesity as one of the top issues facing the community.
