Mon Health System Hosts First Healthcare Career Showcase for Local Students

Posted Date: 10/23/2023
On Thursday, October 12, Mon Health System hosted its first healthcare career showcase for local students at the Bridgeport Conference Center.

Staff from across Mon Health System stationed at booths to highlight the various professions available in a hospital setting. Departments from radiology, labor and delivery, and registered nurses to clinical information technology, risk management and more were in attendance.

Creative activities took place at each booth, such as games, baby swaddling competitions, create your own logos, and more. The Ron and Stephanie Stovash Mobile Nursing Unit bus was parked out front for tours of this innovative training tool, as well as the giant inflatable colon to learn about the importance of routine screenings.

In addition to Mon Health System professionals, local colleges, universities, and technical centers that provide training, certificates, and diploma options for students were in attendance, providing information for program entrance requirements as well as financial assistance information.

“The healthcare career showcase was designed to have high school students gain interest in a healthcare career. Over 30 departments across Mon Health System came out to answer questions about what they do on a day-to-day basis,” said Nate James, System Director of Employee and Workforce Engagement.

In total, 304 students from 12 schools attended the showcase.

“The event created an environment that fostered student success in healthcare. The high school students were engaged in learning more about healthcare and opportunities for education,” said Lotoya Henry-Ojugbana, System Director of Talent Acquisition. “The showcase provided opportunities for future nurses, rad techs, pharmacists, and many other career pathways to learn more about their fields. It was a huge success, and we are grateful to our partners and all those that participated.”
