Mon Health’s Dr. Krystal Atkinson Honored as 2024 WV Wonder Woman by WV Living Magazine

Since 2014, WV Living magazine has been honoring West Virginia Wonder Women, amazing women who are raising the bar in their communities, serving as beacons of light in their industries, and forcing change for the greater good. They are leaders in their homes, their communities, businesses, organizations, and more who are transforming West Virginia for the better. Wonder Women are nominated by readers, former Wonder Women, and businesses and organizations from throughout the state and then selected by the WV Living Magazine’s editorial team as the cream of the crop to be named West Virginia's Wonder Women.
Krystal Atkinson, DNP, RN, CNOR, is a native of Richmond, Virginia and joined Mon Health System in May 2020 as the Chief Nursing Officer for Mon Health Medical Center and Chief Nursing Executive of Mon Health System. In August of 2022, her role was expanded to include Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Medical Center.
Dr. Atkinson has enjoyed a nursing career spanning over 30 years with a clinical background in Surgical Services and is certified as an operating room nurse. Prior to joining Mon Health System, she worked for Hospital Corporation of America for 28 years, working primarily in Virginia with four years in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Dr. Atkinson received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from American Sentinel University, Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Old Dominion University, and is certified as an operating room nurse (CNOR). She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Organization for Nursing Leadership, and the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses.

In her free time, Dr. Atkinson and her husband Rick enjoy spending time visiting family, especially their grandson, traveling, and watching NFL football.
