Two Mon Health Hospitals Honored as Premier Blood Partners by American Red Cross

 
Mon Health Medical Center and Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital have been recognized by the American Red Cross as Premier Blood Partners for 2022, a prestigious honor for their support of the community and national blood supply.

The two Mon Health System facilities collected 305 units in 2021, with 209 units collected at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital and 96 units at Mon Health Medical Center. They have helped the Red Cross collect blood donations as part of a deep-rooted commitment to help save lives of patients facing illnesses and injuries in this community and across the country. Each unit of blood can help up to three individuals and has the potential to help up to 900 people.

“Mon Health Medical Center is proud to be a part of the Red Cross mission that helps ensure lifesaving blood is available for hospital patients in need,” said Mark Gilliam, Chief Administrative Officer at Mon Health Medical Center. “Our organization shares that same humanitarian value to help our neighbors, and we are grateful for the opportunity to host blood drives that will do just that here in our community.”

Every day, volunteer blood and platelet donors across the country are needed to help save lives. Blood and platelets are needed for accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer, or sickle cell disease, according to the Red Cross.

“Our employees understand the need for these donations, and we encourage the community to join us in giving the gift of life. The donation process only takes about an hour and can make a meaningful impact for a patient in need of transfusions,” said Melissa Lockwood, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital.

Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital in White Hall, WV, will have additional dates for 2022, which are currently being scheduled. 

Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston will have a blood drive on Tuesday, May 31 from 1:00 - 6:00 PM at the Lewis County EMS Building.
