Understand and Combat the Holiday Blues with Mon Health’s Shanece Forge
Posted Date: 12/27/2023
It’s the holiday season and Mon Health Wedgewood Primary Care and Psychiatry wants to take the time to bring awareness to the infamous “holiday blues” and highlight services available to those in need.
Family gatherings, financial worries, breaking healthy habits, less sunlight, and unrealistic expectations. These are a few of the things that can contribute to the holiday blues. When the holiday season approaches, Americans feel immense pressure to not only participate in the holidays but to also feel blissful and jolly while experiencing high levels of stress.
According to Sesame’s annual pulse check, nearly 67% of individuals experience moderate to extreme levels of stress during the holidays which can negatively impact mental health. At Mon Health Wedgewood Primary Care and Psychiatry, providers give safe space to express your concerns and provide patients with tools to increase their management of stress and depression.
Mon Health would like to remind patients struggling with the stresses of the holiday that it’s okay to not always be jolly during the holidays and that taking time for yourself, even just a few minutes each day, can be key to managing your holiday blues.
“Our goal is to help individuals decrease suffering and guide patients to develop awareness to have control during the holiday season and much more," said Shanece Forge, Provisional Licensed Counselor at Mon Health Wedgewood Primary Care and Psychiatry. “One thing I encourage my patients to do is to have mental expectations for the holidays. Understanding that you may feel overwhelmed and knowing when to take a step back from the chaos.”
While learning to set mental expectations during the holiday season and developing skills to manage stress and depression may take time, it’s important to treat each day as a new day and to ask for help when you need it.
"At Mon Health Wedgewood Primary Care and Psychiatry, we provide our patients with a listening ear, giving them the tools to handle their anxieties, stress, and depression,” said Forge.
