Vandalia Health Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital Honors Allyson Donohoe with DAISY Award

Vandalia Health Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital is proud to recognize Emergency Nurse Allyson Donohoe, RN, as its latest recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

The DAISY Award is part of a national program through the DAISY Foundation that celebrates the extraordinary compassion nurses bring to their patients every day. At Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital, this recognition is given twice a year to honor the dedication, kindness and clinical excellence of nurses nominated by patients, families and colleagues.

Donohoe has been an integral member of the emergency room nursing team since the hospital first opened. Known for her calm presence, commitment to patients and teamwork, Donohoe was nominated for going above and beyond in delivering compassionate care.

“Allyson represents the very best of what it means to be a nurse,” said Christopher Edwards, DO, Emergency Services Director of Mon Health System and Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital. “She has been a part of our team from the beginning and exemplifies the kind of dedication, skill and heart that this award was created to recognize.”

“Our autistic son was brought in with low oxygen and difficult breathing. Allyson was assigned as his nurse and was awesome! [She was] very thorough, caring [and] answered every question we had. [She] provided him with comforting assurances every time something new was introduced,” said the parent of a patient in a letter of support.

“I am deeply passionate about my work as a nurse. It is a privilege to provide care, support and comfort to individuals during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives,” Donohoe said. “Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work under the exceptional leadership of Carla Hamner [Hospital Administrator, Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital] and Dr. Edwards, whose guidance has significantly shaped my professional journey. I am equally grateful for my wonderful coworkers, whose teamwork, dedication and support make every challenge more manageable and every success more meaningful. Nursing is both a challenging and profoundly rewarding profession, and I am honored to be a part of it every day.”
