Vandalia Health Mon Health Cancer Center is proud to announce the addition of Benjamin Yan, MD, PhD, to its esteemed team of health care professionals. With a commitment to personalized care and advanced technology, Dr. Yan is excited to offer comprehensive radiation therapy at Vandalia Health.
“I am honored to join Vandalia Health and to be part of a team that is deeply committed to providing quality, compassionate cancer care,” Dr. Yan said. “My goal is to cure certain types of cancer especially in their early stages, prolong overall survival and improve quality of life in patients with advanced and end stage cancers. My approach is to apply the latest technology and advancements in radiation oncology to our patients, offering personalized treatment plans that prioritize both effectiveness and quality of life. Board certified by the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Yan’s specialties include precise tumor-targeting treatments (VMAT/IMRT and 3D conformal RT), providing high-dose stereotactic ablative radiation therapy for brain (SRS) and body tumors (SBRT), as well as specialized therapies (HDR brachytherapy) for gynecologic and breast cancers, and radiopharmaceuticals. Beyond oncology, Dr. Yan also offers radiation therapy for non-cancer conditions such as keloid, heterotopic ossification, Dupuytren’s contracture, and low-dose radiotherapy (LDRT) for osteoarthritis, delivering innovative pain relief and disease management.
Dr. Yan earned his medical degree from Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China, and a doctoral degree in pathology and cancer biology from Duke University in Durham, NC. He completed his residency training at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology. During his study at Duke, Dr. Yan identified a tumor suppressor gene, DFF, discovered the molecular mechanism of how chronic inflammation causes cancers, and demonstrated the molecular mechanism of Pim-2 oncogene, etc. His research has appeared in numerous medical journals and media outlets.
Dr. Yan has published over 20 peer reviewed cancer research articles in influential biomedical journals such as PNAS, Cancer Cell, Cancer Research, Oncogene and JBC, and received a number of prestigious awards and honors including the American Association of Cancer Research’s scholar-in-training award and the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Merit Award.
Dr. Yan was named a Top Oncologist by the International Association of Oncologists in 2014, and Top Doctor by 417 Magazine of Missouri in 2020. Dr. Yan was honored to be a Guest Professor of First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University in China in 2019, one of the largest hospitals in the world.
