Hailing from West Virginia, Teresa Tomblin has lived in the Mountain State for most of her life. When she felt defeated after an attempted weight loss surgery, she turned to Mon Health for support.

Tomblin, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science and an Associate Degree in Chemistry from Glenville State, has always committed herself to personal growth and education. She enjoys a fulfilling family life, being married and raising two children while also having three grandchildren. In her professional career, she has worked in healthcare security for the past nine and a half years.

Five years ago, Tomblin underwent an initial Laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy procedure at another healthcare facility in West Virginia. While she did experience severe gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn) affecting her quality of daily living, in addition to weight regain, leaving her feeling frustrated with the outcome. When Vandalia Health’s Mon Health Medical Center began offering bariatric services in January, Teresa seized the opportunity for a follow-up consultation.

She met with Dr. Mustapha Daouadi, a Bariatric Surgeon at Mon Health, and expressed her concerns about the previous surgery. Dr. Daouadi conducted a thorough evaluation and determined that Teresa was an ideal candidate for additional bariatric surgery.

The journey to surgery was detailed and comprehensive. Beginning in late February, Dr. Daouadi arranged for Teresa to undergo an endoscopy, meet with a clinical dietitian, and complete a psychological review. This thorough process ensured that she was mentally and physically prepared for the surgery. By mid-May, all necessary evaluations were completed in a fast-track process. The surgery was scheduled with the robotic-assisted da Vinci Single Port (SP) system for June 24th, and everything went according to plan.

“I feel amazing,” said Teresa. “I knew what to expect for the procedure, and I healed a lot faster than the first time around. I even got to go back to work in just two weeks.”

Teresa has achieved remarkable success in her weight loss journey, losing over 100 pounds. The weight came off gradually, as she intended, promoting healthy and sustainable results.

“Weight loss surgery can be truly life-changing. It's not just about helping patients lose weight; it's about improving their overall quality of life,” said Dr. Mustapha Daouadi, Program Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Mon Health Medical Center and Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital. “For many, it’s the start of a healthier lifestyle, allowing them to do things they haven’t been able to in years. With the right care, support, and follow-up, we can help patients achieve lasting results and regain their confidence, mobility, and health. It’s incredibly rewarding to be a part of that journey."

“Dr. Daouadi was my biggest cheerleader,” said Teresa. “If I had a problem, whether it was gastric related or not, he listened to my concerns and got me the help I needed, and he did it fast. He made sure I was taken care of.”
