Hawthorne joins Mon General administrative team

            Brian W. Hawthorne, MD, has joined the administrative team at Mon General Hospital as its new Vice President and Medical Director (VPMD).

            Dr. Hawthorne started part-time in his new role on July 1, while transitioning his private practice in the Cheat Lake area. He will become full-time on Sept. 1. He was previously employed by the Mon Health System from 1997-2000 and is looking forward to rejoining the Mon General Hospital team.

            “I have always enjoyed working at the hospital,” Dr. Hawthorne said. “The employees are always friendly and helpful, and I will be honored to be part of the Mon General family. I hope to contribute to continuing the high quality care provided by the best hospital in the state.

            "Leaving the patient bedside to go into an administrative role was a difficult decision,” he said. “I have enjoyed private practice in the Cheat Lake area and will miss many of my patients.   I am eager and excited to take on a new challenge and learn new things."

            Dr. Hawthorne is a board-certified Family Practice physician. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse and his undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester in New York.  He completed his Family Practice Residency at Washington Hospital in Washington, PA, where he served as the Chief Resident.

            An active member of the Mon General Hospital Medical Staff, Dr. Hawthorne has served on several committees at the hospital, including serving as Vice Chair of the Peer Review Committee.

            He has owned and operated the Lakeside Family Practice in Cheat Lake since 2000.

            Dr. Hawthorne grew up in Fulton, NY, a small city in Central New York. He is married to Barbara Spencer Hawthorne, a Morgantown native. They have 2 sons, Drew, age 12, who attends Mountaineer Middle School, and Kyle, age 10, who attends Cheat Lake Elementary School.
